History and Organization
Physicians serving as health officers in Indiana organized themselves in 1937. In 1964 the group was incorporated as the Indiana Association of Public Health Physicians.
In the early 2000s the constitution and by-laws were rewritten to include as members: health officers, health department staff, and members of local boards of health. The name was changed to the Indiana Association of Public Health Physicians and Local Health Departments Organization, Inc.—IAPHP&LDHO, Inc. This organization serves as the Indiana State Association of County and City Health Officials (SACCHO) and is the state counterpart to the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO).
The SACCHO by-laws were amended in October 2015 to include the deans of Indiana’s Schools of Public Health as board members, as well as provide for the election of additional members from among health department staff and public health-related entities.
